Growing bamboo: A case study of Alberta We//net

  • Author / Creator

  • This thesis presents the results of a case study of Alberta We//net, a provincial health information system launched in 1996. The study was conducted using semi-structured interviews of elite individuals engaged with We//net, and reviews of We//net documentation and the related health informatics literature. The study focused on the influence of social and political factors on stakeholder reactions to the implementation of We//net. Multiple factors were identified and these are discussed. The study concludes that a number of the factors and issues identified in the We//net case are not unique to developing health infostructures, although some of the are perhaps specific to health programs. Future avenues for research are suggested.
