AREF awarded 2020: The previous phase of this project collected survey data from 1300 residents of the 6 largest urban landscapes (CMAs, CAs) in Alberta: Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge, Red Deer, Medicine Hat and Grand Prairie. The current phase will continue to emphasize those areas as well as the broader Edmonton-Calgary Corridor and “White Zone” of Alberta. The current project seeks to analyse how spatial proximity affects willingness to pay to preserve agricultural and non-agricultural open space --choice experiments and house price data (in progress for Edmonton); do survey of attitudes of Alberta residents toward open space and economic features in urban and peri-urban areas; carry out a qualitative research on attitudes of leaders and planners toward farmland conservation and open space features; and share results with realtors, municipal leaders, administrators, general public.
