CIHR Operating grant awarded 2022: Purpose: To examine an inclusive economic approach to improving health outcomes for diverse populations within the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Research Questions: 1) How are inclusive economic strategies implemented to improve health outcomes for diverse populations within the context of the COVID-19 pandemic? 2) How do these strategies affect health outcomes for diverse populations, and are these health outcomes distributed equitably? 3) How has experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic affected workers’ perspectives regarding employment and their physical, mental, and social health?
Guided by case study methodology and principles of integrated knowledge translation, we will use multiple qualitative and quantitative methods (participant observation, document reviews, policy analysis, surveys for descriptive and inferential statistical analyses). Data will be drawn from two groups: staff at End Poverty Edmonton and partnering entities implementing inclusive economic strategies, and diverse workers (e.g., newcomers, women, LGBTQQIP2SAA). Knowledge generated will serve to inform innovative changes to policies and practices that support inclusive economies in Alberta and beyond. Community partners and collaborators' will be involved in the data analysis. [Personal names of community actors are redacted.]
