A study protocol aimed at addressing a key concern of the Malawian Ministry of Health (MOH), namely the persistence of a high maternal mortality ratio (MMR) of 675/100,000 live births despite a facility birth rate of 73%. This implementation research aims to provide a detailed understanding of how evidence-based quality improvement interventions are being operationalised on the ground and avenues to overcome current obstacles within the Malawian context, thereby providing the MOH with knowledge of how to enhance their effective implementation.
