Kittiwakes are an endangered species, but also a nuisance in Tromsø, Norway, because they nest on buildings. Considerable effort has been made to find ways of preventing the mess they make without harming the birds, however many still nest on buildings. In this image "fish scale" slates , tubular snow guards and heat tape are also visible.
