Fear of hypoglycemia is one of the main barriers to physical activity for individuals with type 1 diabetes. Recent studies indicate that anaerobic forms of exercise (i.e., resistance exercise/weight lifting, sprints, and high-intensity intervals) can attenuate exercise-related declines in blood glucose both during and after exercise in young, healthy adults with type 1 diabetes. These responses might vary based on age, sex, and fitness level and in the general safety of relying on them to prevent hypoglycemia.
