Fibers are the basis of textile fabrics and goods. So, it stands to reason that companies seeking to innovate in the textile arena often start at the source—with the fiber itself. Three growing trends stand out in fiber and fabric production, as manufacturers and consumers alike focus on sustainability, improved performance in activewear, and sourcing. By developing new technologies and methods, companies are putting fibers to work. Recycled fibers are closing the loop more than ever to keep textiles out of landfills. Innovations in fiber finishes and production are reducing moisture and making activewear fabrics thinner and more flexible to enable unprecedented comfort. And the use of gene science in the fiber industry is making sourcing more transparent.
