Next weekend, when you are at the grocery store or out running errands, take a good look at the people around you—in particular, the ladies. Chances are that instead of seeing weekend jeans and tee shirts, you will see an increasing number of women wearing compressive yoga pants and capris with coordinating tunics or tops. Some of these people may be on their way to the gym. The higher likelihood is that they are simply out shopping while wearing clothes that one would have seen previously only in a yoga studio or gym.
This new fashion trend toward wearing throughout the day the casual, comfortable, but fashionable attire designed for yoga practice is being referred to as “athleisure” in the apparel industry. Athleisure is a major phenomenon, fueling fiber innovations and a new category in fashion design. -
