Kittwakes are both an endangered species and a nuisance in Tromsø, Norway. Kittiwakes nest on sea cliffs and mistake the tops of buildings for cliffs. To try to get them to stop nesting on rooftops, kittiwake hotels have been constructed. These are tall backboards with many small shelves attached. These serve as nesting sites. While these are largely full of birds, there are still many nesting on buildings.
