From LIT to MLIS: My Journey from Library Technician to MLIS Candidate

  • Author(s) / Creator(s)
  • The role of librarianship in the twenty-first century is defined by constant change. However, the choices available to pursue a career in a diverse field such as library sciences are distinct from one another, and do not always allow for a better understanding of each role. A library technician diploma or a masters degree in library sciences remain the only academic options, with no undergraduate degree to bridge the gap between the two. With this in mind, I want to share my experiences in pursuing a library technician diploma right on through to a master’s degree in library studies. I believe the choices I have made and the invaluable lessons I have learned are worth sharing, and may help to narrow the distance between these two different academic paths and their respective roles within a library.
