Smart Textiles for Home Safety

  • Author(s) / Creator(s)
  • Security is an important feature of a smart, connected home. Traditionally, home security systems may have been composed of devices such as locks, alarms, and surveillance cameras. However, with the increased internet connectivity of smart homes, houses can now be secured with several other devices. The Internet of Things (IoT) has enabled remote monitoring of homes with the help of new technologies. Some of these new technologies include smart textiles-based home security systems.

The use of electronics in textiles is expanding the potential functions of fabrics in the field of home safety. The function of fabrics within houses is expanding to include ensuring the safety of the property and the individuals living within it-the essential goals of home security. While smart locks, alarms, and cameras are still essential components of a home security system, it is now possible for smart textiles to assist traditional home security devices in more advanced ways.
