The purpose of this project was to provide in-depth information on commonly used strengthening treatments for neurogenic swallowing and speech disorders in adults. A case example format is used in which details are provided regarding treatments provided to two clients with swallowing and speech disorders of different etiologies. Following the case examples, a systematic review and quality appraisal of each treatment technique are reported. Limitations of the case studies, future research directions, and the use of a novel device for hyolaryngeal strengthening are discussed. Keywords: speech therapy, swallowing, tumor abstraction, stroke, head lift exercises, tongue strengthening, Lee Silverman Voice Treatment, expiratory muscle strength training
