The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Bioproduction of sulfated glycosaminoglycan oligosaccharides and their effect on non-heme iron uptake: Studies in human intestinal cell lines (Caco-2 cells)
DownloadFall 2018
Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) such as chondroitin sulfate (CS), dermatan sulfate (DS), heparin (HP), heparan sulfate (HS), and non-sulfated hyaluronic acid (HA) are a group of complex polysaccharides exhibiting a wide range of biological functions. These macromolecules are structurally heterogeneous...

Biorefinery Strategies for Co–generation of Cellulose Nanocrystals and Value–added Products from Wood Pulp
DownloadSpring 2020
Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) are sustainable and renewable nanoparticles derived from cellulose with desirable properties for various applications. CNCs can be isolated from purified cellulose such as wood pulp by concentrated sulfuric acid hydrolysis. The acid degrades non–crystalline cellulose...

Bioremediation of oil sands process affected water sourced naphthenic acid fraction compounds
DownloadFall 2020
Current development of Alberta’s oil sands region requires large volumes of water, leading to an abundance of oil sands process affected water (OSPW). OSPW contains naphthenic acid fraction compounds (NAFCs) which have been found to contribute extensively to OSPW toxicity. Degradation of this...
