This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Fall 2011
Oxidative desulfurization of oil sands bitumen as pre-refining methodology to improve bitumen quality in the absence of catalysts was studied. It has potential advantages such as employing a cheap reagent (air) and moderate processing conditions (<180 °C, autogenous pressure). The specific aims...

Spring 2016
Canada has the world’s largest oilsands reserves. Part of the reserves is being considered as marginal and is not profitable to recover using current technology. Autoxidation (oxidation with air) is a potential upgrading strategy to produce more valuable products from the oilsands derived bitumen...

In pea (Pisum sativum), normal pericarp growth requires the presence of seeds and removal or abortion of seeds lead to reduced pericarp growth and subsequent abscission. Previous studies in pea showed that auxin levels are higher in seeds than the surrounding ovary (pericarp) tissues, suggesting...

Most multicellular organisms solve the problem of long-distance transport of water, signals and nutrients by means of networks of cells and tissues such as the vascular systems of plants and animals. What controls the formation of vascular systems is thus a key question in biology. In animals,...

Spring 2018
The span-restorable meta-mesh approach was previously proposed as a novel method for improving the capacity efficiency of span restoration in a sparse network. The fundamental idea behind this method is to route lightpaths that fully transit chains of degree-2 nodes onto logical bypass spans that...

Availability of constituents' semantic representations during the processing of opaque and transparent compound words
DownloadFall 2011
This project examined whether the availability of the semantic representations of the constituents of opaque compounds depends on the transparency of the first and second constituents. Four semantic priming experiments were conducted using a lexical decision task. Across the experiments, the...
