This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Assessing the mobility of metals and dissolved organics in pit-lake models containing PASS-treated fluid tailings
DownloadSpring 2024
Oil sands surface mining produces considerable quantities of fine fluid tailings (FFT). Several reclamation strategies are being investigated to address the environmental concerns related to long-term FFT storage. One promising sustainable tailings management approach is End Pit Lake (EPL);...

Assessing the N-Nitrosamine Formation Potential of Selected Ionic Liquids, 1-Ethyl-3-Methylimidazolium Bromide and 1-Ethyl-1-Methylpyrrolidinium Bromide, Treated With the Drinking Water Disinfectant Monochloramine
DownloadSpring 2019
Ionic liquids (ILs) are increasingly used in industrial processes as “green chemicals” because of unique properties of low volatility and customizability. ILs can be used to enable novel processes and/or replace conventional organic solvents in a wide variety of applications. Widespread use may...

Fall 2024
The genus Notropis (Cypriniformes: Leuciscidae) represents one of the largest genera of freshwater fishes in North America. The osteology of Notropis and closely associated genera including Cyprinella, Luxilus and Lythrurus, has been the subject of two primary areas of research. First is research...

Assessing the Potential for Hybrid Vigour Within a Species: Disparate Population Breeding of Balsam Poplar
DownloadFall 2021
When two or more species are crossed to produce hybrid progeny, some of them can be expected to yield a growth performance far superior to that of either parent (i.e., hybrid vigour/heterosis). To date, there have been few attempts to examine whether hybrid vigour can be achieved by crossing...

Assessing the Potential of Activated Bauxite Residue (ABR) to Remove PFAS in the Water Column
DownloadFall 2024
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) belong to a group of synthetic organic compounds characterized by the substitution of at least one hydrogen atom with fluorine and the presence of other functional groups. Their high thermal and chemical stability makes PFAS resistant to removal and...

Assessing the potential to involve healers in expanding coverage of cARV programs in rural western Uganda
DownloadSpring 2010
In Uganda there is a gap between the coverage of cARV programs and the number of people who require treatment. Community-based initiatives are necessary to scale-up cARV programs. Healers have been shown to be able to play a role in other aspects of HIV care including prevention. This study...
