This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Spring 2023
The decay rate of exotic atoms is of great importance due to their short lifetimes, which presents a challenge when attempting to probe them. The study of pionic atoms can open up a new area of physics, and experiments such as the PiHe collaboration have found a new method of laser spectroscopy...

Spring 2021
This study of bound states composed of short-lived particles (i.e., positron and muon) serves a common purpose to describe their bound properties precisely. The calculation of a scattering amplitude can be lengthy and cumbersome when we have a specific spin preference and many Feynman diagrams....

The decentralization policy for education in Tanzania: The impact on primary head teachers and their instructional and managerial roles
DownloadFall 2016
For several decades, decentralization has been included in most educational reforms, particularly those developed after the economic crisis of the 1970s and 1980s. This study explores the impact of the decentralization policy for education on Tanzanian primary school head teachers and their...

The Definitive All-Sky Observational Study Of Accretion Disc Physics In Galactic Black Hole X-ray Binaries
DownloadFall 2014
Stellar mass black holes (BHs) accreting in binary systems provide valuable insight into how binary systems evolve and how mass is transferred via accretion. Although in recent years a canonical picture of the outburst evolution in black hole X-ray binaries (BHXRBs) has emerged, these systems...

Spring 2011
Transfusion medicine is dependent upon the ability to hypothermically preserve red blood cell (RBC) function ex vivo. Recent evidence suggests that the deformability of hypothermically stored RBCs may be compromised, potentially leading to microvasculature occlusion and tissue hypoxia in...
