Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Spring 2023
Polar bear conservation faces significant challenges under Arctic warming, especially with respect to habitat loss and the resulting impacts on their seasonal energetic uptake and maintenance. Polar bears rely on sea ice for hunting, mating, denning, and rearing of offspring, and the availability...

Spring 2014
Sea ice in Hudson Bay is melting earlier and freezing later as the climate warms, resulting in declines in the condition, survival, and population size of polar bears (Ursus maritimus) in the Western Hudson Bay population. The objectives of this study are to analyze temporal variation in...

Pollination biology and transcriptomics of Cleomaceae species exhibiting different pollination systems
DownloadFall 2018
Pollinator mediated-selection is responsible for much of the phenotypic diversity exhibited by flowers. Flowering plants or angiosperms that attract a diverse range of pollinators represent a generalist pollination system in which selection is exerted by many different pollinators. However,...

Fall 2014
I investigated the population and landscape genetics of Arctic Grayling (Thymallus arcticus) distributed throughout several connected river systems in Alberta, Canada. Broad- and fine-scale population structure was examined by genotyping nine microsatellite loci in 1,116 Arctic Grayling captured...

Population dynamics of Vibrio cholerae and its close relative Vibrio metoecus in an aquatic ecosystem
DownloadFall 2017
Vibrio cholerae, because of its role as the causative agent of cholera pandemics, is an extraordinarily well studied microorganism. Decades of research have uncovered a plethora of molecular mechanisms and a wealth of genomic information related to the organisms’ lifestyle as a pathogen. V....
