The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.

Disentangling the relative effects of structural complexity and substrate composition on fish habitat selection in coral reef environments
DownloadFall 2021
Identifying features of biogenic habitats (i.e. made of living plants and animals) that attract and retain resident species is a key theme in ecology with important implications for habitat conservation and restoration. Using corals (class Anthozoa, phylum Cnidaria) —a group of foundational...

Disparity in conspecific interaction and vigilance behaviour in a partially-migratory elk herd (Cervus canadensis) on a sympatric winter range
DownloadSpring 2023
Sociality incurs costs and benefits for group-living animals that may influence small-scale behavioural trade-offs such as vigilance and foraging. I examined interaction, vigilance, and foraging behaviours among elk in the partially migratory Ya Ha Tinda elk herd (Cervus canadensis) in Alberta,...

Dissolved Organic Carbon Mobilization and Degradation Patterns in Retrogressive Thaw Slumps of the Peel Plateau, Northwest Territories, Canada
DownloadFall 2016
Anthropogenic climate change has affected the Canadian Arctic cryosphere, accelerating the development of retrogressive thaw slumps (RTS) across the Peel Plateau, NWT, Canada. RTS result from the thawing of ice-rich permafrost and develop due to ablation of ground ice exposed in the slump...

Distribution, biodiversity, and function of glass sponge reefs in the Hecate Strait, British Columbia, Canada
DownloadSpring 2018
Reefs of glass sponges (Porifera, Hexactinellida) off western Canada were recently established as a marine protected area (MPA), however effective management and monitoring of this MPA is hindered by a lack of baseline data about reef distributions and biodiversity. MPA boundaries were...

Diversity of wetland non-biting midges (Diptera: Chironomidae) and their responses to environmental factors in Alberta
DownloadSpring 2016
Wetlands provide a wide range of services, including improving water quality, providing habitats for wildlife, and storing floodwaters. In Alberta, wetlands cover about 21% of the landscape of the province. In Alberta, as elsewhere, wetlands have suffered from human activities and many have...
