This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Effects of Triaxial Stress and Strain on Multiphase Flow in 3D-Printed Fractured Reservoir Rock Analogues
DownloadFall 2024
The oil and gas industry, fundamental to the global energy economy, faces an ever-increasing quest for new reserves to meet growing demand. Hydrocarbon reservoirs, dynamic systems by nature, undergo significant changes throughout their lifecycle, particularly due to deformation from effective...

Geomechanical Controls on Multiphase Fluid Flow in Naturally Fractured Carbonate Reservoirs
DownloadSpring 2020
Carbonate formations host 50% of the world’s oil and gas reserves and a major portion of the world’s groundwater resources. Additionally, 85% of carbonate reservoirs are naturally fractured. Porous rock matrix and fractures in carbonate formations can be greatly influenced by the effective...

Fall 2016
Two major applications of microseismic (MS) monitoring in petroleum engineering are hydraulic fracturing operations and caprock integrity assurance. With respect to caprock integrity, this research has investigated the observation of the absence of detectable magnitudes of microseismic events as...

Fall 2024
Cartagena Perez, Daniel Felipe
This thesis looks for modelling physically the cyclic solvent injection as enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technique used in unconsolidated heavy oil reservoirs, particularly those subjected to Cold Heavy Oil Production with Sands (CHOPS) methods. CHOPS reservoirs are characterized by their low...

Spring 2022
A noteworthy caprock failure occurred on the Joslyn Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) property in 2006 that continues to have a significant impact on the approval process for future SAGD projects. Two reports were released by Alberta government, which are AER Review and Analysis: Total E&P...
