This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Fall 2011
In the Introduction of this thesis, consideration is given to historical and ongoing value of investing research efforts in the total synthesis of natural products. Following this discussion is an explanation of the factors that guided the selection of palmerolide A as a synthetic target. The...

A fluorescent protein exchange strategy for detecting protein-protein interactions and discovering proteinaceous inhibitors in Escherichia coli
DownloadFall 2015
Enterina, Jhon Ralph De La Peña
Green fluorescent protein (GFP), along with other GFP-like proteins, is one of the fundamental tools that are enabling the exciting current era of biological studies. The utility of GFP-like proteins as genetically encoded markers and sensors has provided us with powerful tools for tracking...

A general route to 1,3'-bipyrroles, conversion of cyclohexenone-type systems into phenols and synthetic studies on Coleophomone B
DownloadFall 2016
Chapter 1 describes a general route for making 1,3'-bipyrroles. This work involves intermolecular conjugate displacement using a special Michael acceptor developed in this laboratory. This method is general and enables the construction of highly substituted 1,3'-bipyrroles. The route was first...

A General Route to meta-(Arylsulfanyl) and meta-(Alkylsulfanyl) Substituted Phenols and Synthetic Studies on Sorbicillactones A and B
DownloadSpring 2022
Chapter 1 describes a general route for making meta-(arylsulfanyl) and meta-(alkylsulfanyl) phenols using DBU assisted aromatization developed in this laboratory. Thismethod is general and enables the construction of the C-S bond without using high temperatures or transition metal catalyst. The...
