IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Activation of the calcium sensing receptor attenuates TRPV6-dependent intestinal calcium absorption
DownloadFall 2019
Plasma calcium (Ca2+) is maintained by amending the release of parathyroid hormone and through direct effects of the Ca2+ sensing receptor (CaSR) in the renal tubule. Combined, these mechanisms alter intestinal Ca2+ absorption by modulating 1,25-dihydroxy vitamin D3 production, bone resorption,...

Active and Independent Learning in Blended Learning. An Analysis of Student Characteristics, Trace Data, and Academic Performance
DownloadSpring 2021
In Higher Education, instructors provide students with opportunities to develop essential knowledge, competencies and skills. To offer students the highest quality learning experiences, effective instructors analyze their practice, intentionally seek to identify and check their teaching...

Active flow control of a precessing jet is the focus of this work. A round jet confined by a round cavity exhibits a self-excited rotational motion, precession, for a specific range of cavity lengths. Active flow control of this unstable flow provides the ability to control near-field mixing of...

Active heterotrophic microbial communities from polar desert soils of the Canadian High Arctic
DownloadFall 2012
Polar warming will lead to increased labile organic carbon in Arctic soils, both from the release of organic carbon stored in permafrost and increased plant production. The impact of increasing organic carbon on Arctic soil microbial community composition and activity is of great interest...

Spring 2017
Buried pipelines that share a common corridor with nearby overhead AC power lines experience voltage induction. The induced voltages can cause personnel safety and pipeline corrosion problems. Industry has a requirement to reduce the induced voltages below an acceptable level. In view of the...

Fall 2010
A robotically-controlled actuation system has been developed and built to perform active open-loop flow control experiments on transitional and turbulent backward-facing step flows in water. Control of the reattaching shear layer used hydraulic suction-and-blowing actuation emanating from 128...
