This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Spring 2014
Vapex (Vapor extraction) is a non-thermal process providing a more environmental-friendly and energy-efficient alternative to steam injection. The simulation process using numerical modeling techniques may become difficult when considering the uncertainty due to reservoir heterogeneity. In this...

Sensitivity and probabilistic slope stability analyses to understand sources of geotechnical uncertainty in Open Pit Mining
DownloadSpring 2024
The open pit mining industry is an essential sector around the globe, playing a crucial role in energy production and the development of renewable energy technologies. To this end, open pit mining is increasing efforts to implement best engineering practices to develop sustainable mining that...

Fall 2015
Computer model based leak detection technique is extensively applied in the energy pipeline industry. However, its effectiveness is often limited by the ability of the computer models to accurately reproduce the complex real-world pipeline systems and by inaccurate and insufficient measured data....

Serviceability and Ultimate Performance of Steel and Chopped Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete Flexural Members: Experimental and Analytical Study
DownloadFall 2024
Fibre reinforcement in concrete mitigates cracking, significantly enhancing peak, post-cracking, and toughness responses. The versatile applications of Fibre-reinforced Concrete (FRC) encompass parking lots, taxiways, runways, ground slabs, tunnels, barriers, railway tracks, site access road...

Settling Behaviors of Microplastic Disks in the Acceleration and Terminal Processes in Stagnant Water
DownloadFall 2022
The amount of plastic production grows since the 1950s. Due to poor management and high durability of plastics, they enter and accumulate in the environment. Microplastics (MPs) defined as small (< 5 mm) plastic particles have been widely found in aquatic environments, which threaten biotas and...

Spring 2012
Combining steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) and high strength longitudinal reinforcement in a structural member creates the potential for increased strength and durability compared to conventional reinforced concrete members. There is however limited research into the structural behaviour...

Shear Behaviour of Concrete Slabs and Beams Reinforced with High-Performance ASTM A1035 Steel
DownloadFall 2013
High-performance steel bars manufactured to conform to ASTM A1035-11 have different metallurgy and microstructure than conventional reinforcing steel. These changes result in an effective yield strength significantly higher than conventional ASTM A615 steel while also being less susceptible to...
