This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Spring 2024
Hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) is a common flocculant used in oil sands tailings dewatering technologies. Although HPAM is regularly used in tailings treatment and will eventually be incorporated into the reclaimed landscape of the oil sands, there are knowledge gaps surrounding the environment...

Spring 2018
Pennetta de Oliveira, Leonardo
Bitumen has been extensively extracted from oil sands through the Clark Hot Water Extraction (CHWE) process. This extraction process uses hot water and alkaline conditions to remove bitumen from oil sands ores. The tailings produced by this process are mixtures of sand, clays, residual bitumen,...

Methanogenesis in oil sands tailings: an analysis of the microbial community involved and its effects on tailings densification
DownloadSpring 2010
Densification of tailings slurries to mature fine tailings (MFT) is important in the oil sands industry for tailings inventory reduction, pore water recovery and tailings reclamation. The cause of methane release from the tailings pond of Shell Albian Sands (Albian) and the effects this process...

The Use of Polyacrylamide as a Selective Depressant in the Separation of Chalcopyrite and Galena
DownloadSpring 2013
High molecular weight polyacrylamide (PAM) was tested as a potential selective depressant in the differential flotation separation of galena and chalcopyrite using potassium ethyl xanthate (KEX) as a collector. In single mineral flotation, PAM depressed chalcopyrite while galena was floatable....
