The Circumpolar Digital Image Collection is a collection of photos, slides, other images and contributions shared by many of the University of Alberta’s polar researchers. This horsetail plant was growing in the back yard of an inn in Rovaniemi. It was 47cm from ground to tip. Equisetum or horsetail is a spore producing vascular plant. Members of this genus are abundant around the world and the family is widely represented in the fossil record.

Ernest H. Shackelton wrote The Heart of the Antarctic being the story of the British Antarctic Expedition 1907 - 1907. The Shackelton Memorial Library at the Scott Polar Research Institute holds six first edition copies.
