This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Spring 2018
It has become common for steel fabricators to find torsional loads included in the design documents of many industrial steel structures. These loads arise in wide-flange beam-to-column moment connections when the beam is subject to weak axis bending, which in turn, is transferred to the column as...

Spring 2021
Hand injuries, due to impact, are common workplace injuries. Many work gloves afford impact protection through design of add-on components known as bumpers. Glove design criteria are complex (e.g., limitations from human factors, dexterity, use case, hand size variability) and commercial bumpers...

Fall 2014
Mercury is an air pollutant emitted from coal fired power plants. Once released into the environment, mercury undergoes conversion to organomercury compounds, which cause health concerns for both humans and animals. Many studies have been completed with the goal of reducing mercury emissions...

Spring 2016
Wireless power transmission technology offers a wide range of industrial and biomedical applications and could lead to clean sources of electricity for a variety of users. In this technique, conventional power sources are replaced with power transmission devices, such as coils, and electric power...

Fall 2011
Parameter estimation for mathematical models is performed based on the data collected by experiments using system identification techniques. However, since performing experiments can be time consuming as well as expensive, experiments must be designed prior to performing, so that the data...

Design of FPGA-based Accelerators for Deflate Compression and Decompression using High-Level Synthesis
DownloadFall 2019
As the volumes of data that are transmitted over the internet continue to increase, data compression is becoming increasingly necessary in order to efficiently utilize fixed data storage space and bandwidth. The Deflate compression algorithm is one of the most widely used lossless data...
