This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Static and Dynamic Characteristics of Nano-Reinforced Polymer Composites with Application in 3D-Fiber Metal Laminates: Experimental and Numerical Studies
DownloadSpring 2021
Crashworthiness, energy absorption capacity and safety are important factors in the design of light-weight vehicles made of fiber-reinforced polymer composite (FRP) components. The relatively recent emergence of the nanotechnology industry has presented a novel means to augment the mechanical...

Spring 2014
Static and dynamic characterization was performed on a prototype piezoresistive silicon MEMS strain sensor. Static tests showed the MEMS sensor’s gauge factor ranged from 10-13, which is higher than a foil gauge’s gauge factor. Power measurements at -20 C, 24 C, and 80 C showed that the average...

Fall 2010
This research project describes the impact resistance of masonry units bound with fibre-reinforced Type S mortars and hydraulic lime mortar. The dynamic impact factor and stress rate sensitivity were evaluated for the flexural strength of the mortar and the bond strength, and further, the pattern...

Static detection and identification of X86 malicious executables: A multidisciplinary approach
DownloadFall 2009
In this thesis, we propose a novel approach to detect malicious executables in the network layer using a combination of techniques from bioinformatics, data mining and information retrieval. This approach requires translating malicious code into genome-like representations. Based on their...

Fall 2017
Protein prenylation is the post-translational addition of isoprenoid lipid moieties to proteins, which regulates their subcellular localization and function. Farnesyl or geranylgeranyl isoprenoids are covalently linked to cysteines residues in a C-terminal prenylation recognition sequence in...
