Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Linkage mapping, phenotypic characterization, and introgression analysis of crosses with safflower (Carthamus tinctorius)
DownloadSpring 2011
An inter-specific linkage map of a backcross (BC1) population derived from a cross between C. tinctorius and C. oxyacanthus was developed using primarily microsatellite markers. A composite map, which aligned the inter-specific (C. tinctorius x C. oxyacanthus) map with an intra-specific linkage...

Linking partial migration to endo- and ectoparasite infection of collared and uncollared elk (Cervus canadensis)
DownloadFall 2019
Ungulate ecology studies can focus on forage-predation interactions, but parasites also can have significant impacts on body condition, fecundity, and survival in ungulates. The effects of migration on parasite exposure are not well understood, but exposure may differ on allopatric summer ranges....

Local and regional demography in a migratory forest songbird and effects of forest management intensity
DownloadSpring 2014
The numerical response of forest birds to habitat alteration has been well documented in North America, but the underlying demographic processes driving these changes remain largely unknown. Among species sensitive to such alterations, the Ovenbird (Seiurus aurocapilla) shows one of the largest...

Long-term changes in migratory patterns of elk (Cervus canadensis) in the southern Rocky Mountain Trench of British Columbia, Canada
DownloadSpring 2021
Migration can be described as a round-trip movement between distinct ranges and is thought to be a response to a spatiotemporal variation in resources. Large vertebrate herbivores such as ungulates often migrate to track seasonal variability in high quality forage and reduce predation risk....

Lower Triassic Coelacanths of the Sulphur Mountain Formation (Wapiti Lake) in British Columbia, Canada
DownloadFall 2011
The coelacanths from the Lower Triassic Sulphur Mountain Formation (Wapiti Lake) have been known for nearly 100 years, though they remained undescribed. Preliminary works identified them as belonging to a single undescribed species of Whiteia; however, six distinct coelacanths were identified:...
