This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

On the impact of drought-induced abiotic stress on the composition of Douglas-fir lignin for valorization
DownloadFall 2022
Rising interest in the transition to renewable energy, materials, and chemicals ushers biorefining strategies that effectively utilize all components of lignocellulosic biomass feedstocks. Concurrently, more frequent and severe drought brought on by accelerating climate change pose questions...

Fall 2015
Hydrocarbon-based liquid crystal domains have been identified in unreacted heavy fractions of petroleum from Athabasca bitumen and other hydrocarbon resources worldwide. These liquid crystal domains have also been shown to transfer from the hydrocarbon-rich phase to the water-rich phase during...

One-step fabrication of crystalline TiO2 nanotubualr arrays and relevant temperature influences
DownloadSpring 2012
TiO2 nanotube arrays fabricated through anodization have attracted significant interest and have been widely investigated due to their great potential for many applications related to the solar energy utilization for, e. g. photoelectrochemical water splitting, degradation of pollutants and solar...

Spring 2015
Heterogeneous slurry pipelines are found in mining, chemical, and solid transportation (such as coal pipelines) industries worldwide. One of the most important factors in the operation and design of these pipelines is bulk velocity. Solids settle when the bulk velocity is below the deposition...

Optically mediated thermal response of Quartz Tuning Forks modified with a silicon bridge for bolometric and atmospheric sensing through Photothermal Spectroscopy
DownloadSpring 2019
Due to the inherent benefits offered by the Quartz Tuning Fork (QTF) platform, QTFs have found utility in a variety of scientific applications to include, but not limited to spectroscopy, microscopy, and atmospheric sensing. It is from the intersection of these applications that the proceeding...

Spring 2018
The objective of this thesis is to design an optimal LQ-boundary controller for SCR, which is a model of coupled parabolic-hyperbolic PDEs with an ODE. The problem is a boundary control one because the manipulated variable u is the ammonia gas at the inlet (z = 0).Our purpose is to nd an optimal...
