    Creator: Chor, Louis
Description: This is a translation of nineteen short passages from "Nihon Shoki", commonly known as "The Chronicle of Japan", from the original classical Chinese into English. Nihon Shoki, completed in 720 CE, is the first official national history of Japan compiled under the auspices of the emperors and empresses during the late 7th century and the early 8th century. Passages selected include the beginning of the universe (called heaven-and-earth), the birth of the Sun Goddess, the eastern expedition of Emperor Jinmu, the coming of the Chinese classics and Buddhism to Japan, and the exchange of diplomatic missions between Japan and China in the early 7th century. Title: Silkworms and Babies to the Emperor: An Episode in Nihon Shoki = 天皇所欲者,蠶兒乎?嬰兒乎?— 『日本書紀』幽默小品
    Creator: Chor, Louis
Description: This is part of an attempt to translate into English some passages in the Japanese official history text "Nihon Shoki" (日本書紀). In this short passage, a little humour is shown, perhaps to enliven the otherwise formality of an official history. It is noteworthy that "Nihon Shoki" was written in classical Chinese, the only available written language in East Asia at the time of the compilation in the early 8th century CE. And this written language was understandable by the three cultures of the Far East at the time.
